About Me

ABOUT ME

Hola! My name is Ysanet (pronounced IS-uh-net) Batista.

I am queer, Black-Dominican, born in Harlem NY and currently living in the north coast of the Dominican Republic (Cabarete). As a plant-based cook and farmer I get to cultivate nourishment for my people. I am in a commitment to food & land sovereignty through racial equity and community organizing. In 2016 I created the culinary arts & food justice worker co-op Woke Foods where my team and I get to bring Dominican and other Caribbean plant-based foods to people. For the past 6 years I have been growing my knowledge of food & land via the Farm School NYC Urban Agriculture Certificate program, the Soul FIRE Farming Immersion Program, a Certificate in Permaculture Design, and Maroon Beekeeping. When I am not working at Woke Foods, you can find me farming, cooking for my squad, surfing, or resting.

I am using this site to share but also save memories of important and special pieces of my life. Join me :)
