Rematriation Immersion is a weeklong experience in the Dominican Republic that reconnects Dominicans, from the Diaspora and in the island, to our culture, land, social justice movements, and local people on the island of Ayiti.

Since 2024, we have gathered a small group of Dominicans to spend a week engaging with regenerative farming, natural clay building, afro-indigenous spirituality, surfing, ancestral gastronomy, community organizing, y más!

WHAT THIS IS:

This immersion is a creative experimentation and deep attention to taste, sound, smell, feeling, and sight as experienced through the flesh to meditate on notions of home, return, and liberation.

More than a vacation or a retreat, this experience invites participants into meaningful relationship with place through hands-on learning, embodied practice, history, joy, nourishment, and collective reflection.

Across coast, countryside, and city, we gather to explore what home can mean beyond distance, beyond tourism, and beyond nostalgia.

Journey Through Place

This year’s immersion moves through multiple regions of the Dominican Republic, offering participants a layered experience of the country’s landscapes, communities, and histories.

Itinerary:

  • Arrivals to POP (Gregorio Luperón International Airport) | Meet & Greet Participants & Hosts with Appetizers

  • Cabarete | Oshun Ritual & Clay Building Workshop (AM), Caves in Cabarete (PM) & Rematriation Collective Dinner (PM)

  • Tuesday, 10/27 - Cabarete | Yemaya Ritual + Surfing (AM), Native Plant Workshop, Parillada & Dominos (PM)

  • Wednesday, 10/28 - Luperón, Puerto Plata | Un Pasa Dia @ Monte House Farm

  • Thursday, 10/29 - La Vega | Farming @ Tierra Negra

  • Friday, 10/30 - Santo Domingo | Yoga + Lunch + Mini Massages @ CasaBienestar (AM), Collective Sancocho Dinner @ Anyi’s Land (PM) | Go to Fixie Lofts lodging in the PM

  • Saturday, 10/31 - Santo Domingo | Time Off (AM), Decolonial Tour, Meeting with Community Organizers & Closing Dinner @ Casarre (PM)

  • Sunday, 11/1 - Participants depart from SDQ (Aeropuerto Las Americas) or can continue on their own

Transportation & Travel Logistics

Ground Transportation: Transportation is included for all scheduled activities and transfers between immersion locations.

Airport Pick-Up (POP Only): Airport pick-up is included in the immersion cost only for flights into Puerto Plata Airport (POP) on Day 1.

Flying into Santo Domingo (SDQ) , Santiago (STI) , or another airport? You must coordinate your own transport to our Cabarete lodging by the start of Day 1.

You are responsible for:

  • Flights to/from DR

  • Transport from airports other than POP

  • Any travel outside scheduled programming

  • Independent outings & post-immersion travel

Detailed arrival instructions will be shared with accepted participants.

What’s NOT included?

Lodging

Participants stay in a curated mix of accommodations that reflect the different landscapes and energies of the journey. Lodging will include a nature-centered ranch in Cabarete, a countryside villa in La Vega, and a boutique loft in Santo Domingo. You are choosing your lodging for the Cabarete portion, for the other lodging we will try our best to replicate your single and/or double occupancy & match your immersion investment.

  • Double occupancy rooms are shared with another participant.

  • Single occupancy options are private.

  • Full apartment options offer additional space and privacy.

  • All lodging options include access to the full immersion experience and programming.

  • Availability is limited and assigned on a first-confirmed basis.

Accommodation options are available based on room style, privacy preference, and availability.

All accommodations are chosen for comfort, atmosphere, safety, and proximity to programming.

  • This is an intimate small-group experience with 8 spaces available to support depth, connection, and care.

  • This immersion is application-based to ensure alignment and group cohesion.

    Application Deadline: May 8th.

    In the event we need more info than shared in your application, we will schedule a quick video call with you.

    Acceptance Notifications: May 15th.

    Deposits Due: May 30th.

    The deposit secures your spot. Soon after you submit your deposit, you will receive an email with the option to pay your balance in full or start a payment plan.

  • Payment plans are available for those who need them. You will be billed once at the beginning of each month for 5 months, starting in June and ending in October. Your total cost (based on your chosen lodging option) will be divided equally into 5 monthly payments.

  • While the immersion is rooted in a Dominican context, non-Dominicans interested in Rematriation work or returning to their own homelands are welcome to apply. Priority is given to Dominican applicants.

  • No, you do not need to know Spanish but be aware that our local guides know basic English.

  • Not at this moment—our program is not tailored for families. We are working to offer a family option in 2027.

  • We are happy to accommodate both.

  • Yes. The agenda is packed, but you will have time for rest and solo exploration.

  • Clinics and hospitals are about 30 minutes from our lodging spaces. We strongly recommend purchasing travel health insurance, as we do not cover medical costs.
