How I Learned To Embrace My Blackness as a Dominican Woman

Bucket List No. 5 - Start a Blog

Hello All! So here it is. The blog I have wanted to start but never got to it. Why? I’ll cover that in the end.

When I was in middle school my mother was diagnosed with kidney stones and had to undergo an extensive treatment with many surgeries. She spent months in the hospital, racked up many hospital bills, and went on an unpaid sick leave. Naturally, she became fed up with western medicine. Searching for an alternative method she started working with a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner and it changed the way my household saw health and wellness. TCM is a healing system of Eastern medicine developed in China more than 2,000 years ago that believes we can achieve optimal health through the cultivation of harmony.

Since then I have been on the pursuit of harmony for my health, spirituality and wellbeing. I have fallen off the wagon numerous times but always find the way back. My mother’s illness changed my lifestyle and the way I see health. I find myself learning new information related to self-care, healthy living, mental health, social issues, and truly believe these are all interconnected. I want to share this learned knowledge with friends and family using this blog.

I plan to share self-care practices, food recipes that are savory AND can heal our bodies, enlightening books and articles, tips on living consciously and socially aware that you may find useful. Creating this blog is also part of a self-development journey I am on titled “Be Fearless”, which started this year. On the list was creating a lifestyle/personal blog because writing + being vulnerable are areas I need to work on. I will put myself out there and share personal stories that can give you all a better understanding on how I came to explore this simple (although some things are not so simple), deep and conscious way of living. I am continuously learning and although I am not living this way every hour of every day, I am becoming more committed to this way of life. As years pass, I grow more in tune with myself and the world we live in. I would love to live in a world filled with kindness, peace, pure love and authenticity so this is one of my contributions.

I hope you can find something of use to your life on this site and perhaps from my journey. Thank you for reading.

Sharing Love & Light,

-Ysa
